Program Overview:
This accredited 6-week course is designed to help educators, parents, and tutors use mindfulness, meditation, breathwork, and mindset coaching to support children who struggle with emotional regulation, anxiety, attention difficulties, and behavioral challenges. The program focuses on equipping adults with practical tools and scientifically backed techniques to foster calmness, focus, and emotional resilience in children.
By teaching these skills early, the program addresses the root causes of emotional dysregulation and builds a foundation for children to manage stress and emotions more effectively throughout their lives.

Program Structure and Weekly Breakdown
Week 1: Understanding Stress and Emotional Regulation in Children
- Objective:
Introduce the basic principles of emotional regulation and how mindfulness and breathwork can support children. - Learning Outcomes:
Understand how stress affects children’s brains and behaviour, and begin using simple breathwork techniques to calm children in stressful situations. - Activities:
Introduction to child-friendly breathwork (e.g., belly breathing). Overview of how stress and anxiety manifest in children. - Materials:
Handouts on stress management.
Homework: Practice using breathwork techniques with a child and note changes in behavior.
Week 2: Teaching Breathwork and Calming Techniques for Children
- Objective:
Learn how to teach child-friendly breathwork and grounding techniques to support emotional regulation. - Learning Outcomes:
Teach simple, effective breathwork exercises (e.g., blowing out candles, balloon breathing) and understand how breathwork regulates the nervous system in children. - Activities:
Practice guiding a child through a breathwork session and discuss strategies for integrating breathwork into daily routines (e.g., before school, and during meltdowns). - Materials:
Child-friendly breathwork scripts.
Homework: Use breathwork techniques in stressful moments and reflect on their effectiveness.
Week 3: Mindset Training for Children: Positive Affirmations and Visualisation
- Objective:
Teach parents, teachers, and tutors how to guide children through mindset exercises that build resilience, confidence, and focus. - Learning Outcomes:
Understand the benefits of using affirmations and visualisation to boost children’s confidence and emotional stability. - Activities:
Practice creating positive affirmations with children (e.g., “I am brave” or “I can stay calm”). Teach simple visualisation techniques (e.g., imagining a calming place). - Materials:
Affirmation worksheets.
Homework: Create and practice affirmations with a child each day.
Week 4: Mindfulness for Children: Developing Focus and Calm
- Objective:
Introduce mindfulness techniques to help children improve focus, reduce anxiety, and manage impulsive behaviour. - Learning Outcomes:
Teach mindfulness practices that foster concentration and reduce emotional outbursts, especially for children with ADHD or anxiety. - Activities:
Practice mindful listening or mindful eating exercises with children. Discuss how to integrate mindfulness into daily routines. - Materials:
Mindfulness activity cards.
Homework: Guide children through short mindfulness practices daily and observe changes in focus.
Week 5: Creating Emotional Safety and Managing Big Emotions
- Objective:
Help educators and parents create emotionally safe environments where children feel supported in expressing and managing their feelings. - Learning Outcomes:
Learn strategies to create emotional safety in classrooms or at home, and use meditation and breathwork to help children identify and regulate big emotions. - Activities:
Practice a short meditation to help children name their emotions (e.g., using “emotion clouds” imagery). Role-play scenarios to help children process emotions. - Materials:
Emotion identification tools (e.g., emotion wheels or cards).
Homework: Practice meditation or breathwork when a child is upset and reflect on the outcome.
Week 6: Structuring Daily Routines for Calm and Focus
- Objective:
Learn how to incorporate meditation, breathwork, and mindset exercises into daily routines to build resilience and reduce stress in children. - Learning Outcomes:
Design daily routines that integrate calming practices to reduce anxiety and improve emotional regulation. - Activities:
Practice creating structured routines with mindfulness and breathwork to be used at school or home. Review how to use these techniques during difficult moments (e.g., tantrums, school stress). - Materials:
Routine planner templates.
Homework: Implement the routine for one week and evaluate its impact.
Scientific Backing for Child Emotional Regulation
Throughout the program, participants will learn how these practices affect children’s brains, including:
- Neuroplasticity: How meditation helps children’s brains form new, healthy patterns for managing stress and emotions.
- Stress Hormones: How breathwork reduces cortisol, helping children stay calm during stressful moments.
- Mindfulness for ADHD and Anxiety: How mindfulness practices improve attention, reduce impulsivity, and manage anxiety in children.
Course Delivery and Materials
- Format:
6 weeks, 1.5-hour in-person sessions (can be adapted for online delivery if needed). - Materials Included:
Handouts, child-friendly scripts, breathwork and mindfulness activities, routine planners, and weekly homework assignments.
Certification
Upon successful completion, participants will receive an IAOTH Accredited Certificate of Completion from SoeL Therapy. This certificate verifies their proficiency in using meditation, breathwork, and mindfulness to support children in emotional regulation. It also certifies participants to teach these practices to others, enabling them to share these tools within their communities or educational environments.

- Cost For Schools: £1800 for the 6-week program, inclusive of all materials and certification.
